Choosing the right keywords is the foundation of every SEO, PPC and content marketing campaign.

If you don't use the right keywords, you're not displaying the right content for the right audience at that stage of the buyer's journey. This means less traffic, fewer leads, fewer customers ... and less revenue.

You can find many articles on the internet with dozens, hundreds of tools that can help you to reach your goals. Many marketing tools overlap each other in features and are therefore up to your preference. So we decided to write an article about the popular tools we use in Expandeco.

The reason why keywords are important for increasing organic traffic is that searchers only find content if Google thinks it's relevant to what they're looking for. Google uses keywords as an important SEO ranking factor. This means that the best way to help search engines understand that your content is relevant is naturally to include the same exact terms people write to the search engine.

One of the most important elements of SEO success is the regular creation of interesting and inspiring targeted content. Use keywords in headlines and page descriptions like hashtags on social networks, and wherever appropriate in your content, focusing on being relevant to your audience and, of course, also being readable.

SEMRush

SEMrush is a great tool for finding out what keywords your competition is showing for in search engines, identifying the terms you don't currently target, but you should. SEMrush automatically sorts results by Traffic% because these are keywords that are likely to attract the most organic traffic. You can then create better content to take traffic from organic search.

The downside is that the results between Keyword Overview and Keyword Magic do not always correlate with each other.

Keyword Magic tool - pulls out keyword suggestions from an extensive SEMRush database with 800+ million terms.

Some metrics showing at KW:

* Position - where the SERP URL is currently located vs historical position

* Volume - Estimated monthly traffic generated from these keywords (how many times people search for them)

* KD - Keyword Difficulty - the higher the number, the more difficult it is to display in search engines for these keywords

* CPC - The average cost-per-click (CPC) if someone is advertising for this keyword

* URL - Website generating traffic

* Traffic% - The average percentage of total website traffic received from this keyword

* Costs% - The total cost of traffic transferred to a website from a keyword over a specific period

* Results - The number of database search results

* Trend - Changes in the keyword's interest for 12 months

* SERP - SERP source image where SEMrush found the result

* Last Update - the time when the keyword was last updated in the database

Ahrefs keywords Explorer

A comprehensive SEO tool and the fact that it has a huge backlink database makes it even more useful. You can see all common metrics (search volume, competitiveness, traffic potential, and LSI keywords), you can also see the percentage of searches that are clicked (or not clicked) from search results along with the rate of return.

Keyword Difficulty estimates how difficult it would be to rank on the first page of results for your keyword using the number of backlinks that currently have the highest search results. But what's more, Ahrefs will tell you EXACTLY how many backlinks you will need for the first page of Google results.

Some metrics showing at KW:

* Search Volume - Monthly searches for your target keyword per month (average over the past 12 months)

* Return Rate - Relative value how often people look for KW again. It does not display the exact number of returns and is only useful when comparing KWs to each other

* Clicks - total clicks (organic and paid) in search results that people perform per month when searching for a keyword

* Clicks Per Search (CPS) - how many different search results people click on average after performing the keyword search

Other useful features:

* Alerts - Alerts for new and lost backlinks, web links, and rankings

* Content Explorer - Discover the most popular content for any topic

* Backlink Checker - Analyze backlinks and discover new suggestions

* Link Intersect - Find sites that link to your competitors, but not to you

Ubersuggest

A great marketing tool for getting keyword ideas, finding regional terms, slang that you use to expand into foreign markets. But the best feature of this tool is finding long-tail ideas through Google suggest results - through the terms Google proposes to you when you start typing in the search engine.

This is a kind of phrase or term that really increases your SEO authority, increases brand awareness and sales in a significant way. You can then filter and export these terms, for example, for PPC campaigns.

Super fast filtering in Ubersuggest is reliable and easy to use, giving marketers the ability to remove inappropriate and negative results.

Google Keywords Planner

Still one of the greatest search volume tools, designed mainly for the needs of PPC Google Ads campaigns. However, it also works as a great way to find out which keyword phrases you can use in your content to increase your organic traffic. This is because it is based on all the data Google brings when searching through its own search engine, using it for marketing mix as well.

So you get access to KW directly from the source. And being completely free is one of the reasons we've included it in our list of the best keyword research tools.

Marketing Miner

It is a data mining tool for online marketers and online store owners, it will help in creating and modifying the web, creating strategies, campaigns, but it will also be appreciated by any online store marketer when checking prices on search engines or expanding market strategies.

Last but not least, it helps with the keyword analysis, SERP, new KW suggesrtions and Link prospecting.
